Several months ago I recommended one of the best books on style I've ever come across, I Love Your Style: How to Define and Refine Your Fashion Style. Written by Amanda Brooks, currently the women's fashion director at Barney's, I found the book incredibly applicable to men as well. Brooks apparently gets her fashion sense from her mom, Elizabeth Stewart, who designed their home in the forests of the Adirondack Mountains some 30 odd years ago. The winter wonderland appears to be the perfect respite from the NYC grind.
Brooks invited Vogue into her family's Adirondack cabin home last December. Amidst the rustic opulence is a handmade wooden canoe acquired from the Vanderbilts, quirky collections (very preppy) of carved bears, and personal touches like a signing post scarred with generations of initials. And it's roomy too. The house sleeps the entire extended brood during the summer, fall, and winter months. Not a bad place to ring in the new year.
"I have been coming up here since I was five years old. This is a place where we can really get away and connect with nature. It's a big part of who we are."
