    Top Drawer | Style

Earlier this month I was on assignment for Matchbook magazine photographing Alixe Laughlin’s Upper East Side apartment. She credits her exciting job at Quadrille Couture, along with her childhood playgrounds in the Bahamas and East Hampton, for much of her apartment’s vibrant palette. Read the entire interview in Matchbook's third issue for Laughlin’s top decor destinations, style icons and inspiration in pulling together her modern prep sanctuary.

    Photographed in New York, NY

Alixe, if you are who i think you are then i looked after you for a while when you were just a few months old. Your mother is Brooke?? If so, please give my regards to your mum, dad and grandparents. All delightful people. Halina x

I love a creative and tasteful use of a director’s chair, á la the one in the corner =)

You can get that Holly Golightly sleep mask at www.fredflare.com - here’s a direct link! http://bit.ly/e0nrz1 It looks exactly like the one from Breakfast at Tiffany’s but w/o the earplugs!

I see a bit of a prep influence, a touch of the sea, the directors chair and she is cute.  I think it’s great for the city life and someone in their twenties.
Prep decor is usually tons of hand me down stuff at that age though. Stuff from the summer home thrown together with things from the big house, a worn oriental, an antique here and there mixed with some chrome and glass-danish modern. Something is always broken or loose, a table leg, theire’s dust about..“damn maid”, maybe some taxidermy that brother brought as a joke, prep stuff like that.
Cute though, really cute going on.

Great apartment. Bold combinations of Asian, Caribbean, and east coast prep influence.
