Big Pony Fragrances
There is something about Bruce Weber’s photography that is distinctly youthful, inherently American. Ralph Lauren recently tapped Weber’s vision (once again) to introduce The Big Pony Collection of fragrances inspired by the four players of a polo team, the icon of the American lifestyle brand for the past four decades. Not only did Weber shoot the print campaign but he directed a short companion video. It is quintessential lifestyle photography. The styling exhibits depth, the mood light, and the landscape detailed. The fragrances are based on a duo of ingredients to give a clear and precise signal from the top to the background.
1: The Sporty Fragrance—This refreshing tonic matches up lime and grapefruit.
2: The Seductive Fragrance—Of the four Big Pony scents, 2 is the most provocative, a mix of dark chocolate, ginger and spice. Most of the women I have spoken to love this one. Unlike anything out there.
3: The Adventurous Fragrance—A thrilling scent of mint and ginger root that triggers somewhat of an adrenaline rush. Its nod to the outdoors makes this my personal favorite.
4: The Stylish Fragrance—An energizing boost that layers mandarin and kyarawood for a one-of-a-kind, stylish edge.

A great read across the board - I’ve been going old school with my lifetime standby Royall Bay Rhum, but am due for something new (according to my wife!). Cheers!

If I may, I would like fragrance #2 to boost my chances with the ladies.

#2!
Richard, done right, pink is seasonless. Just stick to dusty pinks during the winter.

Definitely the Seductive one, because who doesnt want to smell like chocolate!

A bottle of number 2 would be great, I do enjoy the go to hell pants with the more conservative looking fall sportcoats are those herring bone or tweed?

big fan of the belt as a sling. quite innovative utilitarianism

i remember getting the e-mail from rl when these launched and i think i watched the video at least 20 times and then created my own which i thought was amazing. a video where i could feature mr. simon nessman, yes please. i’ve since smelled all of the scents and have to say #4 is probably my favorite, but #2 and #3 come in a close second/third. #1 reminds me too much of other scents saturating the men’s fragrance market. awesome post, so glad you covered this.
left a comment on 9/28/2010 at 12:14 AM:
I’m a woman and without a doubt, number 2 is the best scent!

A bottle of #4 would work better then trying to rub the GQ magazine all over myself.

Thanks for the images, I love the dog with his paw on the bloke’s arm!

These pictures are preposterous. I actually laughed aloud at the two guys and the dog in the golf cart. And the guys pouring a huge bottle over each other? Hilarious. Thanks for the funny post, FEC, but it’s not April Fools day.

I recently tried all of these today. I have to definitely say I loved #1, at first it smelled like cheap axe on the card but on the skin all the citrus comes through, just fantastic.

#3, The Adventurous Fragrance. ‘Tis the season for some good outdoor smells.
left a comment on 9/27/2010 at 1:27 PM:
@Richard Ross—This Weber shoot definitely has a Palm Beach feel to it. In Palm Beach, almost anything goes. White pants in Fall? Yes. Go-to-hell pants? All year round. Lilly Pulitzer-esque prints? Absolutely. The overall styling hits a season-less note, and more or less combines all the different seasons together. For example, white bucks next to black Prince Albert slippers…polos next to wool houndstooth blazers. It’s a fun contradiction. Just keep in mind the weather, season, and the region for which you are dressing…and then have fun with it.

Pink pants for the fall?
I have a pair of bright pink heavy weight (velvet, I believe) pants that I save for a few weeks in the spring, but I really like the idea of pink for the fall. Are there rules for when pink is just not okay?
