Why is the sock/no sock question such a big deal? It’s clearly an issue of preference. If the look works and the person likes the breeze on their ankles, let it be.

FEC makes a good point—women do indeed go sockless all the time; still, though, I must admit that my eyes were also immediately directed at the ankles, and I was rather surprised that this fine gentleman did not have on any socks, especially considering all the layers he has on. I think that the no sock look works extremely well with a polo and a pair of summer white slacks. But I question whether it is appropriate with this winter look.
Also, I like the slim vest inside the sportcoat instead of wearing the vest over the sportcoat. Solid look overall.

@Michael—He is without socks, however, I imagine he’s warm enough with the layers he has on. And women go sockless all the time in winter, do they not? Is the issue really about warmth?

Is he going sockless? Even on a mild winter day, I still think socks (at least thin ones) are mandatory for me.

The top looks great. The blazer/vest combination works well.

I’ve always been curious as the fashion vs. function element to a lot of the clothing that is detailed here. For example, a shooting patch on a vest in the middle of NYC.
