Ernest Alexander
Though New York-based designer Ernest Alexander Sabine launched his eponymous line of men’s bags and accessories in 2009, he’s no spring chicken to the manufacturing industry. It’s in his blood. His grandmother and great grandmother were seamstresses who arrived Stateside by way of Europe after the second World War. It’s that very heritage that fuels Sabine’s attention to detail and construction.
Many of the items in his collection—waxed totes and overnight bags to slim cotton ties and pocket squares—boast gingham, seersucker, and madras accents. Classic finishing in the form of brass hardware instills an air of warmth in each bag. Sabine simply cares. Out of a conviction to “keep manufacturing alive in America,” he deliberately set up shop in New York’s Garment District and employs a factory just around the corner.
Alcott plaid necktie ($72), Wembley pocket square ($35), British tan wax dopp kit ($160), Aiden navy wax utility tote ($165)
I travel with an Ernest Alexander waxed canvas overnight bag and want you to experience, first hand, the craft of these bags and accessories. This summertime collection (valued at more than $430) was personally selected by Sabine and me to be awarded to one lucky reader. I honestly do not want to let go of the dopp kit, it's that brilliant.
