Ever since I met Peter at Sid Mashburn’s a couple of years ago, I have had my eye on his green corduroy trousers. The fit was impeccable. I appreciated the extreme taper in the leg polished off with a cuff. Eighteen months of searching proved futile...until recently. I came across a relaxed fit, wide wale cord trouser sans cuffs by Polo Ralph Lauren. They had potential. Though the silhouette was ill-fitting by my standards, the basic shape and fabric were there. After specifying a tapered leg, 14” trouser bottom and a 1 3/4” cuff with my tailor, he went to work. The result is a beloved trouser with Sid Mashburn undertones.
*In order to create a turn-up, or cuff, choose the longest inseam available off the rack.

Noteworthy: cordovan tassel loafer, 1 3/4" trouser cuff, Norman Hilton natural shoulder sport-coat, Randolph Engineering aviators, Lotuff & Clegg duffle.

I have a pair of cords like yours but no double monk. You made me get a pair of C&Y Lowndes. I am eagerly waiting for them to arrive. Spring is almost here!
Thank you for a great blog.

the big anti-fit up top and tapered leg is very classic and super flattering. points perfectly to bare ankles. looks crisp, clean and totally action-ready.

Your point is spot on. Better to spend the time and money altering a garment to make it yours, than watching it sit on a hanger never worn. It’s a hard lesson, but once you get the fit you want…

This is so fun, love it. Nice casual expression even though you’re in mid-air. Those cords are beauties!

I’m guessing the 14” bottom is also translated to 7” if you were to lay it flat? Very cool outfit. I like your bag in the background.

Wow. That’s an awesome look.
@FEC, is your tie tucked into your sport coat pocket? It certainly looks that way from the photo.

Cords are great! J Crew has a good selection too, in many colors and cuts. I got lucky once and walked through a Banana Republic and found a pair for $12.

Whoah. The outfit is unarguable - but that outlandish jump pose detracts….a lot. Brooks’ Milano fit cords (or even J Crew’s urban slim fit cords) appear to have a very similar fit and would help avoid what sounds like a total rebuilding of the pants….all they need is a cuff.

Nice look. RE Glasses are affordable staples.
BUT of even more note that classic Mercedes Benz 420 SEL - the W126 body style - utterly timeless.

Just goes to show what a good eye and a tailor can do. The pants are brilliant (as are the shoes).

Frederick, three totally unrelated comments:
1. You never disclosed that you played basketball in addition to soccer in your younger days - such effortless air! My basketballing progeny would be proud.
2. I’m envious - you got the sun I missed last week.
3. The green cords are excellent, especially with the tapered leg and cuffs. What are your guidelines re shirt, tie, jacket with such colorful pants?
Best, as always, Tom

Excellent look. The color is muted just enough to escape the go-to-hell look!

@HarrisonK—Get the longest inseam available in your waist size. In my case, that was a 32"x32”...since they did not offer a 34” inseam.

I like everything. When you say get the longest inseam available, how does that work with waist size? I assume a tailor can take everything in and then adjust the length of pant and the cuff.

@CJ—Yes, my bag meets the carry-on requirements…even when stuffed to the brim.
