Chinos are at the bedrock of the prep-set wardrobe, and culture, for that matter. Seven to eight pair, in a scad of hues, are crammed into my chest at any given time. I know gentlemen that have literally never owned any other pant. From prep school to business casual, chinos all they’ve known and all they care to know. I live in chinos. Khaki, navy, go-to-hell of various ilks. I have one pair of jeans that I wear occasionally, but other than that it’s chinos for me.

A pair of great fitting chinos are appropriate for every occasion except a fall/winter wedding in my opinion.
