    Dress Code

    Photographed in San Diego, CA

Noteworthy: it takes a certain amount of moxie to even put on a patchwork madras jacket, much less wear one like you own it. It's the ultimate go-to-hell piece. I photographed this gentleman four years ago at a wedding rehearsal dinner and realized it was for this guy that I created Unabashedly Prep; the guy with an innate sense of imagination but could use help in achieving a more tailored silhouette.

@CHC—Brooks Brothers has been moving toward a slimmer silhouette for several years now. After all, they did pick up Thom Browne to launch their Black Fleece line when no one else would really touch him.

Regarding their extra slim fit oxfords, I picked one up the first year they made them and it fit great…it looks great too; however, they must have slimmed it down even more this season because the extra slim fit did not fit this time around. It was too small in the chest for me and I went with the slim fit…which I’m happy with. It’s slim—not skinny. Get the silohuette that fits your body the closest while allowing you to still move with comfort.

Many of us will argue about fit all day long but I hope we all agree on staying away from non-iron fabric. It’s just not natural…not prep in my book. A little wrinkle is good for you every now and then.

Speaking of a more tailored silhouette:

I know this is a basic question but I’m the guy in the picture (inexperienced). How do you guys feel about the sizing at Brooks Brothers? I own one slim fit oxford, but I’m wondering if extra-slim is the way to go…

Is extra slim less prep somehow?

Also, how do you feel about the non-iron stuff?

Tailor? Probably. But I would bet dinero that he will be much more comfortable as the night wears on than any of those who wear the “tailored” (read: small enough to fit my little sister) jackets and trousers. Pretty much pure prep here - loose fitting, a little rumpled, and certainly doen’t care much what others think ... as it should be.  Way to be in the right place at the right time, Frederico ...

Awesome post. Madras is the ultimate spring/summer fabric.

Certainly an interesting jacket, what sort of Madras is this exactly?
