• Rugger Adventures to the Cape

It has been a long, hot, hot summer. GANT thinks so too. For their fall/winter collection, they ride off to the Cape (on a 1971 Triumph no less) to do what the heat has cruelly kept us from doing—camp. With the epic, yet-to-be-released tune "Equestrian" by U.S. Royalty, not only is Rugger’s fall/winter cinematography set against a cool palette of grays and earth-tones but so is the collection. Plaids, tweeds and wool in fair-isle patterns dot the wintry landscape. Quintessential American sportswear. John Thornley, U.S. Royalty’s lead singer, joins the gang over dinner and drinks in an autumn mainstay corduroy blazer. If you are eyeing the burgundy varsity jacket, ring the GANT Rugger shop on Bleecker (212.620.5949) to get your name on the list. It is due to arrive at the end of September, just as northeast temperatures begin to fall.

Love the movie. While the line may not scream preppy, these guys are in the woods, and being in the woods should be rough and rugged and flannel. Makes me long for a country home, an escape from the superficiality of city life, and an urge to embrace my rugged individualist, dressed in Gant of course.

The clothes are fine, but what I most love is the photography, the way they went after the old-style Russian camera shoots where light leaks into the film from the sides, giving hazy edges. Very nice.

I honestly don’t have the words to express to you how much I love this shoot Fred!

I’m going to paraphrase Thoreau here… rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness… give me truth.——chris mccandless. does this shoot remind anyone of him?

Love, love the varsity jacket. I’m sure many of you share my sentiments of how hard it is to find a quality, unbranded varsity joint.

PS—I agree with Andy on the last photo. That yellow jacket looks quite steezy.

While some of these outfits seem to lean far past preppy and solidly into outdoorsy, (see the layered plaids) I still like the collection as a whole.  The last picture with the toggle coat and the yellow (I want that) coat over the patterned sweater is spot on.  There are a couple spots in Atlanta with limited Gant collections but I’m looking forward to stopping in the store in NYC later this fall.
