Sasha Rhett
by LeeAnne Jackson
From the office, to dinner, tennis, bloodies, to philanthropic charity events, preppy women are no strangers to this social cocktail. Certainly no feat for a lesser woman. A great pair of shoes, a bag to fit all the accoutrement, and most importantly a stylish time piece, are essential for keeping all these activities in check; and indispensable for arriving even a fashionable fifteen minutes late.
The cache to nonchalantly take an ensemble through all these activities is inborn in every preppy woman; after all, this is why we don sportswear. It is easier to go from sporting events to social events without a change of attire. I had the pleasure of speaking with Alexandra Daum, the designer behind the new brand Sasha Rhett. Miss Daum launched the line of luxurious, fashionable watches to please even the most voracious accessory-minded woman. “I do love high fashion, but there is no premium on exclusivity. Everyone should have access to high quality products. I realized it was hard for people to find classic and well made watches that were also affordable.” Daum's designs speak to her UES upbringing, and her stint in Cambridge, having recently completed a B.A. at Harvard University. Classically chic mixed with trendy. Luxury with more accessibility. Lilly Pulitzer thrown in with a splash of Pat Fields.

Every preppy woman has a friend who is a jewelry designer. And for Alexandra Daum's friends, she was just that. “I would be shopping at a department store and couldn’t find a watch that spoke to my personal style. I realized that was something that I was capable of creating.” She noticed that most watches lacked creativity, color, and variation. “Handbags and shoes have so many options available. Not everyone has just one pair of shoes, so why should you just have one watch?”

Preps, however, have an innate frugal side, but not in the typical connotation of the word. “Cheap” would be inappropriate. We enjoy making investments in items that will last generations, which is also fundamental to the Sasha Rhett brand. “It was important that certain lines of our brand represent what is the gold standard of prep, the New England aesthetic. We wanted it to have a clean, crisp, tailored and colorful look, while remaining timeless.” The brand pulls this off with panache by offering high quality stainless steel and gold Swiss made watches. The genius comes in the interchangeable straps. With options including classic nude leather, luxurious animal skins, preppy flourish print, and nautical-esque stripes, there is something for every woman's style and ensemble. Begin your day with a brown ostrich strap at the office; quickly switch to a double wrap strap in silver snakeskin for drinks, and to lavender and white stripes for a weekend at the Cape that says summer better than watermelon and a southside cocktail. Sasha Rhett watches range from $159 to $249 with additional straps from $49 to $69.

Having launched the collection just this past spring, Sasha Rhett has already received prominent press. Recently featured in People StyleWatch, it will not be surprising if these timepieces start appearing on the wrists of young celebs and socialites alike. Unlike many of today's fashion trends, these beautiful pieces can remain in your wardrobe indefinitely. It's a breath of fresh air in a sea of disposable accessories. The best part? Daum wants to see one lucky reader in a stainless steel Sasha Rhett timepiece. Visit SashaRhett.com and then leave a comment below with the strap of your liking (in addition to the included navy zebra print strap) for a chance to win. Contest ends September 23, 2010.

Hands, I mean wrists down, the Schuyler in navy ostrich is IT.
Navy = classically timeless, ostrich = classically timeless.
This band would go a long way - day, night, land, sea, sport, work.
So good looking.
