I think this hack performed magic tricks at a birthday party I went to back in the day.

Wondering why you haven’t put up a picture of the bride and groom? Would love to see how they looked and if their look matched that of the guests they invited.

Love this guy.  What a pimp.

The shoulders are padded and therefore not trad. Fail.

Tripp left a comment on 8/2/2010 at 7:39 PM:

I can’t decide which is more odious before the prep gods: that this gentleman could be trying to pass off a mismatched blazer and trousers (perhaps he calls them “slacks?”) as a suit or that he actually owns a powder blue suit. In either case, this is not trad, it’s a get-up a snake-handler would wear to a tent revival. That being said, I wish his daughter and son-in-law every happiness.

On the whole, I’m with Laguna Beach Trad and ‘def’; there has to be discrimination, aka critical judgement (this is why you pay an expensive tailor, if you so choose). The view that anything goes, or that you get points for trying doesn’t wash.

Having said all that, my father “accidentally” wore grey suede Hush Puppy slip ons under his morning coat at my sister’s wedding in the Julian Chapel in Norwich. The inverted commas are my mother’s.

    Christopher.

Love the shoes, the cane, and as with all of these, the setting… I think it’s a great photo and for a man of his size he wears it well.  Nice job.

@Howard Winthrop:  90% of being a gentleman is good manners.  Shape up.

It is clear you know little to nothing about actually being “prep” and that this wedding was a rare opportunity in your life to feel privileged. Did you also put on airs in public school and while working at the local J. Crew?

The girl’s great and the Weimaraner’s extra great.

When do we get to see the bride and more pics of girls like the one in the background with the yellow dress?

Have you people lost your mind?

Are you joking? This is disgusting. Top to bottom. From the sunglasses and the suit, to the bulk and the boat shoes.

Why do you appeal to such people? You know better.

I live near the beach so I see a lot of this pairing (boat shoes and suits) at pier parties. I guess it depends on the occasion and location.

I love how his shoes and his tie match PERFECTLY.

Christopher Tawney left a comment on 7/31/2010 at 3:42 PM:

The point that nobody has made so far is that the grass has not been properly cut, so we can’t really see the shoes; frankly we’re speculating about those alleged boat shoes, venetians, saddles and guccis until the club servants get their act together and mow the lawn to an acceptable English standard. We’ll come back later to the ‘nit picky/oh bless!/de gustibus non est disputandum’ school in due course. But these pictures have taught me that I too wear my trousers too long. Thank you.

    Christopher.

Love the website and always the selections. I notice a lot of the things you buy you name a place or specialty shop that has really good something or the others, be it a place known for Nantucket reds or the best priced bracelets around. Often they’re in the North-East. I’m planning a trip to the New England area next weekend to visit Boston area and all the way to Maine and was hoping you could do a piece about places to visit for reasonably priced quality preppy clothing. I’m not extremely wealthy so any “common folk” shops would be great. Thanks a ton.

He looks sharp, yet the boat shoes are comfy.

Seems like you guys are so “fixed” on a certain image…like you arent paying attention to what FEC has been saying. True prep doesnt care what you think. Ive seen boat shoes worn with suits…ive done it myself. I thought it was a South Florida/Boca Raton thing, but I guess not. This guy is well dressed, I have no problems with anything here.

The details in the background really make this photo great. Nice work!

Tucker left a comment on 7/30/2010 at 12:45 PM:

He’s too advanced in both age and girth to be wearing boat shoes with a suit.  Outside or not, I’m not feeling it.  Maybe it’s just that he doesn’t want to get his Tricker’s dirty. He also looks like he wouldn’t give a shit what someone posts in a blog comment, so he’s got my respect.  Nice photograph, Fred.

Never thought of boat shoes with a suit, nice idea and it works here!

WIsco left a comment on 7/30/2010 at 10:49 AM:

Tailoring for a large man like this is always difficult.  I’d shorten the cuffs on the jacket and the shoulders are a bit big, but he’s likely got large arms.  The slight supression in the jacket helps a lot.  Plus, who cares… his daughter is getting married!

Kal left a comment on 7/30/2010 at 10:38 AM:

@FEC When are boat shoes acceptable to wear with a suit? They seem to work here but is that only because he is outside? I don’t see how they could work indoors paired with a suit.

pat s left a comment on 7/30/2010 at 10:14 AM:

serious that jacket needs a trip to the tailor

Christian Bourasseau left a comment on 7/30/2010 at 9:19 AM:

He looks relaxed, cool and I love how he is wearing top-siders with his suit. I like his shades, the dogs, the girl behind. There’s a lot of nice details in this picture. He is the father of the bride!
