Heavy Tweed Jacket—Very keen of you to notice her bag. She picked up this vintage bag at Bobby From Boston. A brilliant find.

Heavy Tweed Jacket left a comment on 4/26/2010 at 5:17 PM:

Obviously the dress is cute, but it’s that bucket bag is what, for me, makes this outfit. My wife has a Fendi bucket that she got years ago in Rome. It just has that casual Saturday thing going - and she can always carry my sunglasses in it, a big help.

anthony left a comment on 4/25/2010 at 3:01 PM:

i’m not a huge fan of the dress (i liked a very similar one from rugby that was featured last summer, but it was made of cotton thermal material, it was more fitted and from what i remember had some ruffles going on), but the picture is great.

i love that you keep featuring this chick, namely because redheads are so rare nowadays. she also always has a killer smile on her face which enhances the overall appearance of the shot.

This girl (I mean dress) is gorgeous, but like the “pleated skirt” model, will look much better in about 2 months when the tans start to come in on the east coast

Love the look. Although technically I would not consider that (from the photo) to be a pleated skirt.  Great site BTW!

Thank you so much for sharing the details of Sarah’s outfit—I have been pining for a Kiel James Patrick belt, but I have not been able to find one anywhere! Any ideas?

KieL James Patrick left a comment on 4/27/2010 at 12:53 AM:

Figured since so many people have complimented Sarah on her remarkable knack for composing a perfectly classic outfit that I would share with you a brief break down of where/what and when.
    1.    Pearls-  A combination of two necklaces… one in which I remember she purchased on a Caribbean Cruise we had gone on together our first year dating.  The Second necklace is “Fake” and she believes she picked it up at an antique shop in Warwick.
    2.  Oxford-  Ralph Lauren; Slim-Fit Chelsea Striped Shirt
    3.  Cardigan-  Pringle of Scotland Cashmere she Purchased at Juliann Orso
    4.  Purse-  Restored 1980’s Era Dooney & Bourke
    5.  Belt-  I am proud to say is one of my own designs : )
    6.  Skirt-  J-Crew; Cotton Cavalry Skirt
    7.  Bracelet-  Is but of course… a KJP that Sarah designed : )
    8.  Shoes- Sebago Spinnakers she picked up at the Tannery in Boston

Nothing like a little history & memories behind an outfit.

Spot on.  Anyone who tells you skinny ties are the “new thing” obviously never looked at men in the Northeast 1962.  My mother teaches design and told me that almost nothing in fashion is truly original anymore.  She’s right, but we can still appreciate the looks of today even if they take inspiration from yesterday.

    Thanks a bundle

Mary left a comment on 4/21/2010 at 11:57 PM:

This look is so relaxed prep, just what a college girl needs. Plus I feel like prep doesn’t always have to be polished, it can accommodate to a person’s lifestyle like for this girl it’s the studious but chilled college life.

bunny left a comment on 4/21/2010 at 1:42 PM:

tortoise eyeglasses would be preppier and contrast. might try a lighter denim with those boots or those jeans with darker boots. she’s still cute tho :) great hair.

Cruising around my old stomping grounds I see. Spent some time just around the corner. You should pop into the Roger’s Pub at Babson and ask Doug for a dollar draft.

    Nice rugby shirt!

John left a comment on 4/20/2010 at 4:33 PM:

This gal is fabulous! Maybe a lighter shade of jeans would make a more interesting contrast, but overall this takes me back to what preppy was like in the late 70s and early 80s. Sometimes less can be more, and in my opinion, it’s lovely.

Karoline left a comment on 4/20/2010 at 2:20 PM:

I have those same boots!  Love this look!  Fred, if you’re in the Boston area, you should really check out the preppy scene on the South Shore!

Damien left a comment on 4/19/2010 at 3:55 PM:

Great look. Almost pick’d up a pair of those shorts but the ones I saw had anchors. Can’t really tell by the pic but looks like he could use a good watch or bracelet.

    EdoubleM.blogspot.com left a comment on 4/19/2010 at 11:16 AM:

I like the purple oxford and the navy skull & bones shorts color combination with the belt but I would’ve went with a different shoe. But that’s what separates us from each other and our own individual style. If you want to follow some type of Prep format that you read about and study online then good luck to you in finding your own personal style! Be a leader and follow your own beliefs.

Jonny left a comment on 4/19/2010 at 10:23 AM:

I agree. In my opinion, a “prep” is an aesthetic, a look, a lifestyle, not a uniform.  If we all dressed the part without personalizing & styling our pieces, then we get lost in the look and lose any sense of originality.  There has to be something that separates oneself, otherwise what makes me different from any other “prep”?

Christian Bourasseau left a comment on 4/19/2010 at 10:22 AM:

The shorts and the oxford are perfect. I like the driving shoes, but being him I’d chosen a pair of loafers or topsiders, to keep it more classic and preppier. But in general, I like his style and he is without doubt preppy. I mean he wears oxfords and go to hell pants!!

Jonny left a comment on 4/19/2010 at 8:33 AM:
