    Who wants to spend one week on Nantucket with your five closest friends? Rhetorical question, of course. The line starts behind me.

    After recently returning from a weekend there myself, I can attest you want this even if you've never been. My good friends at Sperry Top-Sider are giving you the chance to pack your duffels for a week long summer share in Nantucket with five friends via their Summer Share Sweepstakes.

    And should you be one of the lucky ones, Sperry and I want to make sure you have the shoes to take you there.

    1. Choose a shoe from the following:
    • Women’s Cloud Logo Authentic Original 2-Eye Boat Shoe (liberty ditsy floral)
    • Men’s Authentic Original Canvas Boat Shoe (olive)
    • Men’s 75th Anniversary CVO (Nantucket red)

    2. Leave a comment (using a valid email address) with your shoe (and size*) of your choice.

    One winner will randomly be chosen May 20th and announced here. Should 50 of you "like" this sweepstakes, a second winner will be chosen as well.

    *Sperry, within the last year, has adjusted their sizing down a 1/2 size (e.g. I used to wear a 10 but now wear a 9 1/2).

    GANT Rugger just launched their pre-fall collection set to hit their e-commerce site in about a week. It's a bit more tailored, straightened up, and smart. The New Haven Math Club short was created in the spirit of those old safety rules and regulations tutorial film reels of the 1950s. Refreshingly enough, it highlights how to properly wear your clothes while gently pointing out that although you may not be able to reach the intellectual heights of the New Haven Math Club, perhaps you can at least adopt a few pointers on how to gain an impeccable sense of style (e.g. popped collars are not for scholars).

    Of course, once you know the rules, only then can you indulge in breaking them.

    The story of the whale swallowing Jonah, though a whale is large enough to do it, borders greatly on the marvelous; but it would have approached nearer to the idea of a miracle if Jonah had swallowed the whale.

    AEV is a well dressed man.  I guess we’ve all swallowed a whale this week. 

    Great Range, from the well tailored business man, who can have a little fun with conversational accessories (Ties, Socks, Watches)  to the fun, relaxed effortless prep style we all know and love. 

    Now if I could only make a bracelet that served a purpose and get it on his wrist….  perhaps a bottle opener KJP?  Golf Ball marker button??

    Great week, great comments, but I am ambivalent to a certain extent.  These outfits are probably the most “wearable” in an everyday context, tasteful, well-fit, with a dash of character that makes them personal.  But, at the same time, I look to FEC to give us something with a bit more pop.  Give me madras shorts and a white blazer.  I like the site best when it highlights the inventive, those that define and expand prep by pushing its limits.

    I have a pair of pants like this but not sure the DC corporate world is ok with them. I did choose to wear a sage green pair of pants with navy gingham shirt, navy tie, navy blazer, and sockless penny loafers. I think it went well but I did get a few looks at the office.  Is is possible to do this at the office?

    All four looks are good and appropriate.  This one is particularly nice.  As far as a lack of a big toothy grin, some people don’t do that.  Additionally, how the subject turns out really depends on when FEC takes the photo.  It hardly signals a negative dispostion.  FEC, I enjoy your efforts.

    I have been looking at the last series of photos and have generally liked what I have seen. However, something about the photos and the fit struck me as odd.

    Each shot is taken at belt buckle level from the same distance. It is impossible to determine scale in any of the shots.  Just curious. If the subject is a small guy, it would go a long way toward explaining to visual issue I am having.

    The same outfit would look very different on a guy who is 6’6” vs. one who is 5’6”.

    I’m certainly repeating myself, but it warrants repeating - classy look, and as appropriate at age 30 as at age 70.  Not big into whether something is truly prep or not (however you define it), but the last three looks garner respect and are timeless. He’ll be able to continue wearing the same well-made, well-fitting, expensive clothing for many years without “going out of style.” To be able to do so is not only economical, but reflects well on one’s foresight, stability and maturity.  Doubts?  See any 40-year old goths/punks around lately? I applaud a somewhat more conservative, timeless look that enables one to focus on the person, what they say, and what they stand for over and above what they wear.  That said, this entire diatribe doesn’t further the conversation much on a style blog, does it?  Nonetheless, I respect the model, as well as his fine photographer.  Good job, Fred.
