I really like the yellow pants, and have been needing some for a long time now. It’s nice to see more people wearing brighter colors this winter.

    Photographed in New York, NY

Noteworthy: Burberry trench coat. The women of New York city often leave the house in wet weather gear at the slightest chance of rain. It would seem these Tommy Hilfiger duck boot heels make it a little more fashionable.

The scarf is definitely EXETER - EXETER UK ENGLAND! The blurb does state it has British hints, guys, that was your clue. Of course could be Dartmouth as well, but….

SCD left a comment on 3/18/2012 at 2:02 PM:

    @JGR- It’s a Dartmouth scarf, not Exeter.

Alejandro left a comment on 3/6/2012 at 12:32 PM:

Amazing duffle coat. I can imagine you walking in the gray streets of NYC. Brilliant!

JGR left a comment on 2/20/2012 at 4:37 AM:

Not sure what problem anyone had with the scarf, but it appears to be an University of Exeter scarf, which as a current MA student there I am all for seeing it on this website!

Jeanna left a comment on 2/15/2012 at 2:52 PM:

    Thanks for the clarification.

MGM left a comment on 2/15/2012 at 8:34 AM:

I think the scarf is just fine.

F.E. Castleberry left a comment on 2/14/2012 at 5:27 PM:

@Jeanna—I deleted AEV’s comments surrounding my scarf. Comment moderation has been in practice for almost a year now and was entered into after much deliberation; however, it has proven time and again to have been the right decision.

Jeanna left a comment on 2/14/2012 at 5:10 PM:

FEC—Been reading a while, first time commenting. I wonder, did you delete AEV’s comment about the scarf? Or did he? I wouldn’t necessarily fault you for deleting serveral comments of his, but you (to my knowledge) normally don’t delete comments and it can make for a healthy debate.

Fab fair isle, wingtips (can’t tell if black or preferably dark brown) love the red duffle coat!  Well done FEC!

M Arthur left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 10:15 PM:

It means I hope you prosper. The word fare can be used like this “how are you faring” It would mean how are you doing. And of course thee is used in place of you. So it would be a type of blessing to someone as you leave them or they leave you. It would mean I hope you do well.

Richard Ross left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 9:56 PM:

Oh my. This is absolutely perfect. You are killing it.

MGM left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 6:34 PM:

Yes, the fair isle sweater looks absolutely fantastic.  Seems like you always gotta wear them with ties, though!

MJB left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 2:20 PM:

I hope the scarf kept you warm…since I’m sure that is what the intended functional purpose was. Well done.

    K. left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 2:13 PM:

I especially appreciate the mixing of complimentary colors; most shy away from red and green because of the holiday connotations, but you did it without looking like you need a present with a bow under your arm.

George left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 12:54 PM:

Intended or not, the background (structures) is as inclusive as the clothing. On the right, classicist detail and ornamentation; on the left, sleeker, straighter lines. As for the scarf, it’s nice. Yet another “well done.”

Paul left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 12:11 PM:

The Fair Isle sweater is the best part of this outfit. I can’t seem to find it on the Gant website, though…

F.E. Castleberry left a comment on 2/13/2012 at 11:14 AM:

@Pierre—While I am fully aware the proper phrase is “fare thee well”, I chose “Fair” as a play on the Fair Isle sweater I am wearing.

I like this arrangement and I don’t even know why. It just works, that’s all. And, it doesn’t look overly studied…may have been, but looks quite spontaneous.

The slightly rumpled blazer really makes the outfit seem effortless, the way it ought to be.

  • J.McLaughlin Summer 12 Lookbook

    Style

It’s December and sunny with a high of seventy-five. The rhythmic hum of gulf waves acquiesce with the erratic buzz of electric golf carts. Boca Grande, the small residential community on Gasparilla Island in southwest Florida, is second (or third) home to the affluent, former Presidents, and the like. It largely remains a “one road town” and that’s the way everyone likes it. There isn’t a single stop light in sight and no one is ever in a rush. It’s the perfect playground for the J.McLaughlin girl. The community eagerly played host to the J.McLaughlin summer campaign I was shooting. And even though I was working long days, Boca Grande has a way of slowing you down just enough to really be in the moment.

Love the skirt in the second row, far left photo. And the photos themselves are gorgeous, a nice peek into summer from the middle of a dreary (but mostly snowless) New England winter.

@FEC: About how many hours of sunlight did you get on an average working day? Shooting in Florida, it seems like you’d have at least four or five hours of excellent afternoon light a day.

Bing Guan left a comment on 2/9/2012 at 7:36 AM:

Unreal work - you’ve really mastered your genre. If you’re using anything other than natural light in all your photos, it’s naturalistic enough that you can’t pick out where an off-camera light might be.
