This is a great shot, and the photographer’s images remind me of early Scorsese, Leone, Copolla, and in some instances Fellini. And what’s not to like in LA?

Carlos left a comment on 3/2/2011 at 12:24 PM:

Love the pants. The whole sockless look might not always be warranted, but look good and of the moment. They stick out, especially out here in Los Angeles; no one wears pants like that. The coat? Seems a little too much for the assuming warm weather. However, being an LA native, it does drop down to 30 degrees in my neighborhood at times, and that is pretty damn cold for us. A coat that big, for a person not used to 40 degree climate is definately fine. Too many assumptions going on here. And Joe, it was suppossed to snow down to 500ft in elevation, I live at 1900 ft and it didn’t snow. Very few places received an inch or two of it.

Ever since I met Peter at Sid Mashburn’s a couple of years ago, I have had my eye on his green corduroy trousers. The fit was impeccable. I appreciated the extreme taper in the leg polished off with a cuff. Eighteen months of searching proved futile...until recently. I came across a relaxed fit, wide wale cord trouser sans cuffs by Polo Ralph Lauren. They had potential. Though the silhouette was ill-fitting by my standards, the basic shape and fabric were there. After specifying a tapered leg, 14” trouser bottom and a 1 3/4” cuff with my tailor, he went to work. The result is a beloved trouser with Sid Mashburn undertones.

*In order to create a turn-up, or cuff, choose the longest inseam available off the rack.

AEV left a comment on 2/23/2011 at 4:52 PM:

Whoah. The outfit is unarguable - but that outlandish jump pose detracts….a lot. Brooks’ Milano fit cords (or even J Crew’s urban slim fit cords) appear to have a very similar fit and would help avoid what sounds like a total rebuilding of the pants….all they need is a cuff.

@HarrisonK—Get the longest inseam available in your waist size.  In my case, that was a 32"x32”...since they did not offer a 34” inseam.

HarrisonK left a comment on 2/23/2011 at 4:00 PM:

I like everything.  When you say get the longest inseam available, how does that work with waist size?  I assume a tailor can take everything in and then adjust the length of pant and the cuff.

Hard to go wrong with a peacoat (I think I got one opportunity to wear mine down here in NOLA).  The first thing that struck me was that, if it’s cold enough to wear the coat, shouldn’t it be cold enough to cover the ankles?  and is it weird to wear topsiders in the winter?  Maybe because there is a general nautical theme it’s ok…

Something about the fit of the jacket around the waist and the bagginess of the upper thigh of his trousers is throwing me off. Looks like he found those clothes in a second hand store—and not that there’s anything wrong with that, you can find some great stuff second hand. It just seems to me, in my opinion, that he needs to get his pieces altered.

I like this look, though I would prefer it without the ‘on trend’ varsity jacket.

I don’t have a problem with wearing college stripe scarves - I bought one from J. Press in the Harvard colours as a souvenir and I always get compliments on it. Given that I live in the UK though, it doesn’t have the same connotations to most people, which probably makes it somewhat more acceptable. It definitely beats wearing one of those hoodies with the name of a place you’ve visited on though - I really hate seeing that ‘look’.
