@FEC - I’m relatively new to your blog and wish I had more history of your back and forth with AEV. But from the little I’ve read I think his issue is with your hijacking of the term “prep”.

@Joey Dee—Unabashedly Prep was never designed nor conceptualized to serve as a forum for critiquing individuals’ personal style. This isn’t “Hot or Not” or better yet “Prep or Not.” That’s not what this is.
What Unabashedly Prep is, and has always been, is a platform to share my stylistic point of view, display my professional work (a reflection of my stylistic point of view), and display an appreciation for other’s style I’m drawn to.
Unabashedly Prep’s success or failure does not hinge on a thriving commentary in the comments section. Its success or failure hinges on the relevance and quality of the content.
@AEV—You want me to create a full week’s worth of me dressing in a truly trad/preppy manner? Firstly, there are several blogs in my links section that do just that (A Daily Prep, An Affordable Wardrobe, The Trad). Secondly, why do you want me to create an entire week of me dressing in a truly trad/preppy manner when you claim to know it all? Are you hoping to learn something? Hoping to be inspired? I think you are afraid I’m giving this “prep” you know and love a bad name. All I can give you is what I appreciate about the “prep” I know and love.

@CHK, The way I understand blogs, how they work, and how they garner success, is by having a perpetuating a momentum in the dialogue between given commenters on any one blog. The more participants in that commentary thread for any given entry, increases the blogs statistics, hits, views, et al.
Although AEV’s comments may be monotonously repetitious, he does contribute to the statistical activity on Unabashedly Prep, generating greater commentary from more commenters old and new.
AEV’s role, if any, is synergistic to this end, whether he realizes or not. With that in mind, here’s to the ongoing success and readership of Unabashedly Prep.

AEV, I truly believe you should start your own blog. And before you retort with your go-to cop-out (“I have never had any interest in starting my own blog” or something like that), hear me out. You seem truly perturbed by Fred’s personal style, because, simply put, it does not perfectly reflect your own. Enough so that you are probably one of UP’s top commenters - the grumpy middle-aged stalwart of the site. I’m not saying that you are not entitled to your opinion, but yours has become such a monotonously unpleasant one, that I wonder what you hope to get out of it, and if it wouldn’t be more effectively used to promote this style you beg of FEC than to merely snipe at people?
Nobody would imply that because you read this site, that it has to be a pitch-perfect expression of your own stylistic choices. Take what you like, and respect what you don’t. Personally, I like the style of Tavi Gevinson, but that does not mean I spend all day on her blog, begging her to dress more like me (especially because I am a guy)...but you get the idea.
I appreciate and respect that Fred has the drive and ambition to “walk the walk”, and you should have more respect for that, too. If you are so repulsed by his creativity (not interested in arguing over the definition of that word, fyi), then try your own hand at it.

@AEV—Doing so would turn FEC into abashedlyprep.com. This IS his style. This IS how he really dresses. This IS his definition of prep. If he dressed differently, as you are requesting, then he wouldn’t be authentic to HIS definition and take on prep….whatever that may be.

Fred, would you entertain the idea of doing a full week’s worth of you dressing in a truly trad/preppy manner? Classic brands, minimal accessories/jewelry. I think a great number of readers would love to see you pull that off…and, as it were, get back to the (previously) stated roots of the blog.

Great look over all, did you make the hole for the pin yourself?
I’m not very fond of mixing colors of leather so I would myself go for a brown glove that goes with the shoes.

I can’t say that I have ever been a fan of pennyloafers/ Weejuns - but other than that, your jacket/shirt/tie combination is awesome. I really like the denim, argyles and shades as well. A very tight presentation. Tip of the driving cap to you, sir !
Curious: I see that you are a fan of Ralph’s Rugby line… perchance have you ever owned a pair of RRL denim? If so, how would you compare them, fit and comfort wise, to Rugbys ?

I like everything I see here, especially the Weejuns. Very nice touch. Keep up the good work FEC. I very much enjoy seeing your professional work but am also subscribing to your version of ‘prep’. I find it to be refreshing and uniquely authentic so I say ‘carry on’.
