Is that a second button done up on a two button jacket? Very non-U. Having said that, better loose fitting than skin tight.

mattie P left a comment on 9/3/2010 at 2:13 AM:

horrible.  the jacket as a possibility with something conservitive underneath, and on the bottom.  but all apears very ill fitting

David left a comment on 9/2/2010 at 10:41 PM:

Really, really bad.  Lilly is for women, period.  Just because Lilly sells clothes for men doesn’t mean they’re meant to be worn by men.  Those pant wrinkles are terrible, buy an iron.

Elizabeth left a comment on 9/2/2010 at 8:04 PM:

It’s great to see men who aren’t afraid to wear bright colors, such as this fellow and yourself in the “Racing Green Jean” photo.

Shawn Ricci left a comment on 9/2/2010 at 5:44 PM:

It just looks like he is trying WAY too hard. Either item would be great on its own, but together, not so much. Then again, to me, Lilly sport coats are like ironic t-shirts - I look at them and laugh, appreciate them on others, but would never wear one myself.

James left a comment on 9/2/2010 at 3:06 PM:

My personal preference is that he’d rock the “go to hell” look on either top or bottom, not both—but to each his own. I salute your brass cojones, sir.

Thanks to all for the sock advice…  I figured there had to be a cheaper option but was looking in the wrong places!

F.E. Castleberry left a comment on 8/29/2010 at 3:25 PM:

@Zack—The navy silk knit tie is by Brooks Brothers. It can be one of your most versatile accessories in your wardrobe.

@Andy M.—As NWR mentions in this post, the loafer socks from Journeys are a cheaper option. I wear them in black. They are cheap enough to buy over an over again without consideration for how fast you might go through them.

@Luis Alcaraz—When I will be on my feet for extensive periods of time, I wear socks…loafer socks that give the appearance of not wearing socks. Now, that’s comfortable.  Remember, if you decide to go sock-less, shoe trees help to absorb moisture and odor.

@robdarko—Yes, that belt is an equestrian belt by Tory.

Ben left a comment on 8/27/2010 at 1:33 PM:

Try a little baby powder in each shoe when going sockless.

The Funky President left a comment on 8/27/2010 at 1:32 PM:

@andym I’ve tried many brands of these no-show socks, including higher-end ones and sock specialists (like Goldtoe).

My favorite?  The ones from Payless Shoes.  Seriously.

Andy M. left a comment on 8/27/2010 at 1:11 PM:

Really nice… This is a tough group of colors and patterns to make work well and it looks awesome.  I love the lighting here too.

Luis, I love the sockless look but think it’s uncomfortable not to wear socks.  I buy “invisible” super low rise socks at Neiman Marcus… $25 for a set of three.  You can’t see them with even the most low cut loafers and they’re great to keep your feet dry.

Anybody else know another (cheaper) place to get something like them?

robdarko left a comment on 8/27/2010 at 8:50 AM:

Laguna, I cannot tell if he has a trim cuff or a roll.  Most likely it is a roll and it says that F.E.C. is “… modern and a tad preppy.” Also, according to The Cuff Code, he like drawing attention to his ankles or those awesome RL loafers.

F.E.C., you look very smart.  Is that an equestrian belt?  Unfortunately, I require a substantial belt to keep everything neat.

Ted Roosevelt left a comment on 8/30/2010 at 6:20 PM:

This is not preppy. It is contemporary - along the lines of J Crew. The look is modern/metro/homo-sexual chic. The question must always be: Can I wear this in 10, 20, 30 years? Look about the streets; one pair of Top-Siders (or fake ones) does not a preppy make. Call your blog what you will, but we’re not fooled.

F.E. Castleberry left a comment on 8/25/2010 at 2:18 PM:

@Zack—I pick up my watch straps from J.Crew and Smart Turnout.

@Will—These white jeans are made by Rugby by Ralph Lauren.

@Nate—Yes, these are the new Ralph Lauren Singleton Loafers made in New England.  Next time simply click on the link I provided in the “Noteworthy” section.

@lafreshness.tumblr.com—It’s the missing glasses. With glasses on it’s Clark Kent.

@Joey dee—And exactly what is wrong with school uniforms? Sometimes we have to stare our fears in the face…especially when that color looks incredibly good on you.

@robdarko—I have to call bullshit on this one. Do you know anything about prep athletes??? Lacrosse? Soccer? Crew? You think all these guys are aesthete wimps? Of course not. And for the record, I don’t work out…these forearms came out of nowhere. I would encourage you to expand your view on how belts are worn…if I would have had this belt “peeking” out I would have been crucified for front-tucking.

@Shawn Garrett—I wear slim jeans and chinos…not skinny.  I am always comfortable when sitting, standing, running from authorities, etc.

@Sunday—I wholeheartedly agree…not only be happy in their clothing but laughing in them.

@JMA—I don’t ask for trouble, I make it. And the fact that you think my pants are too short lets me know they are just right.  It’s that touch of “just off” because being perfect is over rated.

@Rashidi—These jeans are not made by Levi 501s but are made by Rugby. The only tailoring needed was taking the inseam up to 29”.  I have loved them hard this summer.

@MJL—I’m not wearing Cole Haan Air Rivingtons, but the loafers that replaced the Rivingtons I previously wore.

All worth it for the athletic glory, right?

Rashidi, yes, Fox Brothers is the best BBQ I’ve ever had.  Right up there on mac and cheese too.

Robdarko, I see where you’re coming from in not showing off, but I guess I look at it as varying by outfit.  If I were in chinos, a button down and a sweater, then sure, a flash of a leather belt on occasion is what I’d want.  But with an outfit like this the belt and the watch are your primary sources of color and they set off the entire outfit.  Difference of opinions I suppose but I like how this looks.

Elizabeth left a comment on 8/24/2010 at 11:30 AM:

robdarko left a comment on 8/24/2010 at 10:32 AM:

There’s the rub, Andy M.  You do not “show off” the belt.  The belt should just peek every now and then as you go along.  Actually, you try not to “show off” anything.

F.E.C., you may look great and broad shoulders are desired male trait but I think you may be too athletic for preps.  IMHO.

P.S.  I might be getting my preps and WASPs mixed up.

I’m not really a fan of the white peter pan - looking collar, but it’s a nice look nonetheless.

Gosh! I haven’t bought any white bucks in years and this is inspiring me to do so. Nice photo!

Totally epic, dude. Love those dirrrty bucks. He’s sitting on the lawn of my church.

Cool look.  How come these people are always alone though?

I love it; this is so me!  I have a belt that looks almost identical to his and I wear it all summer long.  I think bucks are a bit cliché (I prefer a pair of unlined, chocolate brogues or simple white canvas sneakers) but he looks absolutely charming.
